Last week, Immigration Minister Marc Miller renewed the promise of regularization by announcing that a “broad and comprehensive” program will be proposed this spring. This program could help hundreds of thousands of migrants access the basic rights we all deserve!
This announcement proves our voices are being heard. But we must keep speaking out to ensure ALL undocumented workers are included in this program.

Full and permanent immigration status is the only way every worker can have equal rights. That’s why the Workers’ Action Centre joined the action on December 16 to deliver holiday letters to Premier Trudeau calling for #StatusForAll. At the action, migrants bravely shared the heart-breaking consequences of living without status such as family separation and workplace exploitation. This action marks the two year anniversary of Trudeau’s promise of regularization which is honestly two years too long.
So let’s keep being loud in our call for status for all and an end to all deportations.
Fighting (and winning) against wage theft
We want to thank every supporter who contributed to the fight this year. We are still accepting donations to the Workers’ Bowl* fund that supports our educational programs for workers. Your support allows us to keep empowering workers to stand up to bad bosses.
In 2023, workers successfully fought back against wage theft with the Workers’ Action Centre’s support. We helped workers recover over $155,000 from bad bosses this year! To help protect yourself against wage theft, follow the tips in this checklist (or find it in more languages).
We want to hear from workers who have experienced workplace problems in the last 5 years. Please take 15 minutes to complete our Problems at Work Survey (also available in Bengali, Chinese, Somali, Spanish and Tamil). Your answers will help us create new strategies for workers to protect ourselves.
Don’t forget that three public holidays are coming up. Most workers are entitled to public holiday pay for December 25 (Christmas Day), December 26 (Boxing Day), and January 1 (New Year’s Day). If you work on any of these public holidays, you are also entitled to premium pay. Learn more about public holiday pay here. If you think you did not receive your public holiday pay, please call our Workers’ Rights phone line after January 8 at 416-531-0778.
And from everyone at the Workers’ Action Centre, we wish you a happy and safe holiday season! ❄️⛄
*The Workers’ Bowl is the annual joint fundraiser of the Ontario Employment Education and Research Centre (OEERC) and the Workers’ Action Centre (WAC).
