On December 18, 2011, migrant and their allies around the world came together on factory floors, in farm fields, in hotels and construction sites, and on the streets to commemorate and celebrate the struggles of migrant workers on the “Global Day of Action Against Racism, and for the Rights of Migrants, Refugees and Displaced People”. In Toronto, the Migrant Workers Alliance for Change (MWAC) organized a vigil at the Chinese Railway Workers` Memorial in somber reflection and to reiterate the need for immediate, urgent action to ensure justice, dignity and status for all migrants.
The Migrant Workers Alliance for Change (formerly the Coalition for Change) is a coalition of advocacy and community groups, unions, workers and community members, aimed at improving working conditions and fighting for better protections for live-in caregivers, seasonal agricultural workers and other temporary foreign workers. WAC is a member of MWAC. For more information on the issues and the work of the coalition, please visit the MWAC website.
