“Persistent Poverty, Voices from the Margins” documents the real lives of some of the poorest people living in one of the richest places in the world – people living on welfare in Ontario. It’s the third in a series from the InterFaith Social Assistance Review Committee and the stories are drawn from a tour of more than 30 communities across the province.
Included in the book is a chapter “Precarious Work: How Lax Employment Standards Perpetuate Poverty”, written by Mary Gellatly, Community Legal Worker at Parkdale Community Legal Services (PCLS). WAC works closely with PCLS in the fight to improve wages and working conditions for workers in low wage and precarious employment.
