Lillia stands up against wage theft and receives $2300 in unpaid wages!

November 17, 2011

Lilia had to fight for over a year, but she finally won her fight to be paid the minimum wage and be treated as an employee. When Lilia started working at a downtown cleaning company, she was told she had to start her own company to be paid. For many months, Lilia worked as an employee at the cleaning company, but didn’t receive basic entitlements under the Employment Standards Act, such as the minimum wage. Lilia took on this employer, and recently received a cheque for over $2,300 in unpaid wages and other benefits!

Lilia shared her story in our Wage Theft video #2 in March this year. Watch her story.

Lilia fought back, not just for herself, but because of the unfairness she saw for many other workers:

“I saw there was an injustice happening with what they were doing to me. They didn’t want to pay me what they owed. There was so much unfairness, not only with me, but with the other employees in this workplace, and unfortunately in so many others places where I have gone to look for work.

But I want to tell you, that those who don’t give up, will succeed. They paid me my wages, they paid me what was fair. We can do it! When we have confidence to fight, we can achieve many things! “
