The LCBO brings in $2.5 billion in yearly revenue that goes toward funding public services like education, healthcare, housing and public infrastructure. These services need more funding, not less! Yet Premier Ford’s plans to privatize alcohol sales would redirect that $2.5 billion straight into the pockets of CEOs and big box grocery and convenience store chains like Loblaws and Circle K. Will you send an email to Premier Doug Ford, telling him to keep the LCBO public?
Workers know that privatization means more unstable, precarious jobs for the sake of building up profits for bosses. Already, 70% of LCBO employees are casual workers. That means their hours are not guaranteed, most don’t have health benefits, and there’s little hope of gaining a permanent part-time or full-time position.
LCBO workers rightfully want good jobs where they can keep giving back to their communities. One of their demands is to open more stores with longer hours of operation, which would give greater convenience to customers while also increasing public revenues for schools, hospitals, and more. If you want Ford and the LCBO to do the right thing, support LCBO workers in your neighbourhood!
