In 2024, the Workers’ Action Centre was able to do crucial organizing on the ground with our members. We are so proud of those who learned their rights and passed them on to their neighbours, the members who made sure people know that migrant and undocumented workers have rights at work too, and the workers who stepped up to take on bad bosses.
It takes a lot of training, confidence-building and courage for workers to come together and organize to protect their rights. It also takes a lot of supporters like you chipping in to keep our worker education programs going.

The Defending Our Rights workshop is one of our strategies to empower workers who call our phone line about unpaid wages. Workers come to the Centre on a Saturday afternoon for this educational session that teaches them how to enforce their own rights. An organizer or senior leader leads a group of workers facing wage theft in a discussion about what information is important to their case, and how to collect the evidence. Not only do they learn about their rights, they quickly realize they are not alone.
Without the Workers’ Action Centre’s programs, most workers wouldn’t realize how much they are owed in unpaid wages. Many would eventually give up on trying to recover their stolen wages. Even more wouldn’t discover how much power they have to protect themselves and stand up for each other now and in the future.
The dozens of workshops delivered in 7 languages in neighbourhoods across the city, the workers’ rights resources on how to protect yourself at work, the countless outreach activities – all of these are critical parts of the work we do. They couldn’t have happened this year without donations from supporters like you.
2025 will be here soon with its own challenges and potential for worker victories, big and small. We will need more people ready to fight for workers’ rights. That means funding and delivering more education and training. Are you up for the challenge? Give what you can to empower workers and share this post with your friends and co-workers.
We wish you the proper public holiday pay, vacation pay, and much-needed vacation days. See you in the new year!
All donations go to the OEERC Education and Leadership Fund for Workers in Precarious Employment to create collaborative community leadership development and educational projects with WAC. Tax receipts are available for donations of $10 or more.
