What do you call hours upon hours of work for which your boss refuses to pay? We call it wage theft.
That’s exactly what Nia and Isabelle have been experiencing for two years after thousands of dollars in wages went unpaid from their hairdressing work at Toronto’s Mankind Grooming. Join our Stop the Wage Theft: Community Action outside Mankind (155 Redpath Ave. Unit #101) on Wednesday, March 11 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Let’s tell the boss, Anka Miron, that wage theft is not acceptable!

Isabelle and Nia filed claims with Ontario’s Ministry of Labour to recover their unpaid wages. The Ministry investigated and issued orders for Mankind to pay Isabelle $4952.99 and Nia $4036.87 back in October 2018. Since then, the Ministry of Labour has proven to be toothless, failing to get justice for these workers.
Only after Isabelle and Nia teamed up with the Workers’ Action Centre and fought back with the support of the community, did Mankind finally start making partial payments. Hundreds called Mankind on Valentine’s Day and in the following weeks to demand that they pay in full. Many joined us when we held a picket outside Mankind (see photos here) to expose the owner’s shameful actions, including locals who stopped by to get our leaflets and honked alongside our chants. This pressure is working, and we cannot stop until Isabelle and Nia get ALL the unpaid wages they worked so hard for!
Right now, Nia and Isabelle continue to be owed thousands, while the Ministry of Labour sits idle. Our rights are meaningless if they are not enforced! That’s why your voice is crucial! Together, we can send a clear message to every bad boss out there who thinks they can get away with wage theft.
Join us on Wednesday, March 11, at Stop the Wage Theft: Community Action so we can raise our voices even louder for Mankind owner Anka Miron to hear! Share these graphics on Facebook and Twitter to invite more of your friends to join us. If you’re outside of Toronto, please call Mankind at 416-551-1113 to tell the owner to pay in full, or leave a review on their social media to let everyone know about the ongoing wage theft (Google Profile for the Eglinton Location, Google Profile for the Richmond Location).
