4th Day of Action – 4 bakery workers waiting to be paid

December 12, 2012

overtimeI worked at a bakery for a year. The owner told us if we can’t work 7 days a week then there is no work. He paid us minimum wage, but no overtime pay. I am owed $2,000 in overtime and unpaid wages. I quit after I tried many times to get my wages. I made a complaint, and three other co-workers made complaints too.

The Ministry of Labour ordered the owner to pay my wages, but I didn’t receive any money. It’s been more than a year now that I have been waiting.

This company thinks that they can cheat workers and keep our wages. This is not fair. We work hard. I went to work, without sleep and worked the night shift to make money. I worked in the cold weather when the employer didn’t have a proper heater for the workplace. Now, the company is not paying us our money – this is unacceptable. Who is responsible? This should not happen. My boss should be punished for not paying and the Ministry should help us to get our wages.
