Since we began our 12 days of action, more than 500 messages have been to Minister of Labour Linda Jeffrey letting her know what wage theft means to you. Today we share 11 of your voices from across Ontario:
I try to imagine what it would mean to me and my family if I was not paid even for one week. Please do all that you can to stop wage theft now.
Not having enough food on the table.
Workers who are paid the wages owed will spend the money in the community, and be able to care for their families…
No one wants to be exploited and have to go to the food bank.
Employers who fail to pay wages should be penalized, they should be fined an equal amount of what is owed and those funds should go to the person who is owed the wages. That’ll teach them to pay on time!
Making a commitment to put an end to wage theft will also help the thousands of migrant workers across the province realize their rights under the law.
It’s time stop wage theft in Ontario! End unfair $10,000 limit to claim unpaid wages
Temp agencies are wage theft. It should be illegal to have to give part of your pay to someone to get a job
Workers in this province don’t stand a chance unless someone takes the chance to stand up and say this is not acceptable.
Have you made your mind over to do the right thing by employees in this Province? We certainly hope so.
Please work to stop theft of wages. Don’t let these cheapskate employers off the hook!
