The affordability crisis has set workers even further back after the last few years of the pandemic. Workers are fighting harder than ever for everything from permanent resident status, decent wages, permanent and adequate paid sick days, and equal pay for equal work. And we can’t afford to back down. Through the educational programs we offer, workers are gaining the confidence and skills necessary to defend our rights at work.
We are able to offer these leadership programs to workers because of the support we receive through the annual Workers’ Bowl fundraiser* – and it’s just one month away! Will you help strengthen workers and our communities by donating any amount today?

With the serious health and financial threats of precarious work, low wages and income insecurity, it’s more important than ever that workers are organized and feel confident to share workers’ rights information – and to defend those rights!
The time our organizers spend with workers teaching them about workplace rights, how to speak up at work and how to assist others to do the same is an investment that’s paying off. Our membership has more than doubled since before the pandemic with more workers dedicated to big issues like the urgent need for permanent paid sick days as well as permanent immigration status to ensure equal rights at work. The growth of our movement is a testament to the growing leadership skills of our members who stay connected with what matters to our communities and inspire others to join us, learn more and become leaders, too.
Dr. Naheed Dosani, a palliative care physician, is taking part in the Workers’ Bowl this year. “In my work as a doctor,” he said, “I see poverty wages, the inability to take paid time off when you’re sick, and lack of immigration status as preventable factors that negatively impact my patients’ health. When people don’t have access to healthcare because of their status or because they can’t afford to take time off, even the simplest of health issues have the potential to balloon into life-threatening conditions. One of the ways we can treat injustice is to support our community. That’s why I support the Workers’ Bowl.”
Friend, please show your support for workers’ rights today: Make a donation to the Workers’ Bowl. No amount is too big or too small, and tax receipts are available for donations of $10 or more. Together, let’s make sure workers gain the knowledge and skills to exercise their employment rights effectively.
*The Workers’ Bowl is a joint fundraiser between the Workers’ Action Centre and the Ontario Employment Education & Research Centre (OEERC), which supports community leadership development. All donations to the Workers’ Bowl will go to the OEERC Education and Leadership Fund for Workers in Precarious Employment to create collaborative community leadership development and educational projects with the Workers’ Action Centre.
